Jack White - Blunderbuss

BlUnDeRbUsS (enjoy my mad skillage?)

I knew I would want this album as soon as I heard "Love Interruption" on the radio yet I didn't get it straight away cos, well, I'M A DICK. At least, because I waited, I only had to pay £7 for it and I think the start price for it in HMV was £10... not too sure on that one. BUT YEAH. This album is BRILLIANT if you love creepy western gothic rock? Hmmm not quite sure how to really sum this up. The guitar solos are CRAZY - my favourites being in "Freedom at 21," "Weep Themselves To Sleep" and "Take Me With You When You Go".

His lyrics are very intricate and delicately written - again I have no way of explaining this! My favourite set of lyrics are in "Sixteen Saltines" and they go, "She doesn't know but when she's gone I sit and drink her perfume. And I'm sure she's drinking too But why, where what and for who?" MIND BLOWN ON THIS LYRICAL MADNESS.

Google pic - don't h8 or discrimin8

Favourite songs...
  1. Sixteen Saltines
  2. Freedom At 21
  3. I'm Shakin'

musical adventures

This year my taste in music has developed beautifully as I realised that I don't have to listen to songs about "getting crunk in da club" or "bootay shakin gals" in order to keep friends (songs like that make me angry inside). Since I got a job I have been on a CD rampage and buy one every month or so. I love actually having an album to physically hold as opposed to on iTunes or what not. I'm like a granddad in that I don't like to switch to modern technology until the last possible second (I still don't have an iTunes account). You don't get to see the album artwork/lyrics if you don't buy the CD - come on guys!! ALSO, HMV 2 for £10... how good is that?! Although, that is only if your willing to wait until the albums you want are more than a few months out of date. Life gives us hard choices...

These are the albums that I have bought so far this year...

Crappy camera phone woop woop

  • White Lies - Ritual / favourite songs: Strangers, Bigger Than Us, Bad Love
  • Lana Del Rey - Born To Die / favourite songs: Off To The Races, Carmen, This Is What Makes Us Girls
  • The Vaccines - What Did You Expect? / favourite songs: If You Wanna, Norgaard, Wolf Pack
  • The Wombats - The Modern Glitch / favourite songs: Our Perfect Disease, Techno Fan, 1996
  • Noah & The Whale - Last Night on Earth / favourite songs: Tonight's The Kind Of Night, Wild Thing, Give It All Back
  • Ben Howard - Every Kingdom / favourite songs: all of them except the last 3 which I don't remember so they can't be too good

So! What is the point of this?... well, just thought you might like to know. I like all these albums for pretty much the same reasons, most of their songs are good, yet some are boring. Judging from my favourite songs you could probably tell that I love songs about memories and ones that tell mini stories. DEY DE BEST. Ben Howard's music is definitely my favourite though! His songs are like beauty in lyrical form.

Alice's CD of Da Weeeeeeekkkkk is...
TheEnemy - Streets In the Sky
(dont h8 the excited face)

I made the mistake of carefully listening to this album for the very first time, lyrics in hand. This lead to slight disappointment. BUT WAIT. Once I listened to this in a relaxed manner I started to concentrate on THE MUSIC and let the lyrics do their ting. THIS LEAD TO HAPPINESS. The only song on this album that I don't like so far is "Like A Dancer". For anyone who has this album, why would she feel like a dancer and what is the significance of this? I DON'T UNDERSTAND. But yeah, get this, it's good.

In other news...
Last Saturday I was strutting around Spitalfields market and there were quite a few stalls representing independent record labels, which was the kind of thing you go to and your like "why is my life so boring and uncreative compared to these v.cool people?!" but anyway it was cool. So I managed to pick up this free CD AND THESE SUPA-HIP BADGES!! WOOP WOOP.
Please enjoy this aesthetically pleasing image

This album is from the record label Full Time Hobby and I was pleasantly surprised by some songs on here such as "My Name Is Carnival" by Erland & The Carnival and "Mirrored & Reversed" by White Denim - although I cannot fully judge the good-ness of this FREE TING as I've only listened to it twice through so don't h8 if anybody bothers to research and then comes to attack.

Thanks to any one who got to the end of this without falling asleep or going to the toilet inbetween. We should do this again sometime...
