Customised Topshop Rucksack

As I was browsing the Topshop website a few nights ago I came across a rucksack that I reaaaally liked which made me annoyed as I already have a Topshop rucksack and so buying another one would be stoooopid. I quickly had the idea to customise the bag I already have using inspiration from the one off the website.

This is the bag I was inspired by. Image from Topshop.com

I just think the vintage floral pattern and leatherette look so cool along with the zips and chunky stitches.

This is the rucksack I have, which is still cool. Topshop.com

I found some spare velvet lying around and so decided to tack it to the pockets in a very messy and non-planned way. I was going to use leatherette like the bag from the website but I didn't have enough...

I think the deep purple colour of the velvet really stands out against the studs so I'm pretty pleased with what I've done, even if the sewing was very rushed!

DIY Halloween

I don't know about you, but as much as I love having a laugh, I hate spending huge amounts of money on dressing up costumes that I will only wear once when I could be spending that money on a nice going out dress that I could wear again. Therefore, when my Sixth Form had a "horror" themed dress up day, I wasn't too impressed. The year 13s had 'decided as a group' (I put that in quotation marks as most of the year 13s don't even get on) to go as "zombie school girls" and I thought that seemed like quite a fun idea - a simple shirt and tie with a bit of fake blood.

I decided to customise an old shirt, however as I got more and more into it I shifted from "zombie school girl" to simply "girl in shirt."

I went fairly crazy with Sharpie pens (I did this the night before and it was late and I was too lazy to get the paints out) and drew some pretty random stuff including; worms coming out of my pockets, skeleton lovers, a snake wrapped around my arm and a skull necklace (hence why I did not wear a tie).

Around the arm holes and the bottom of the sleeves I attached safety pins and wore a spiked bracelet to match. To go with it I just applied some dark eye shadow and pretended to be cool.

I also added detail at the back by cutting a skulls head which everyone thought was totes orig(inal).

- Please ignore my hunched appearance. -

So if you're also being forced to dress up this Halloween and you're not really into it - customise something you already have a make it work for you. Just do a better job than me.

Charity Fashion Show

Last week my Sixth Form put on a fashion show in aid of Basildon's Woman's Aid and they managed to raise nearly £1000 in just two nights! The girls worked hard for many months getting boutiques and shops to donate/lend clothes for the models to wear so there was a mix of clothing - some good, some not so good! As this was a school fashion show - it was more dance than strut, obviously darling.

Originality?

Today myself and a friend from my textiles class went to UCA Epsom open day. We both really loved the place and spent the whole car journey home feeling inspired and talking about ideas we had gained from the day. The place itself was very clean and modern and the town seemed quaint yet there were many artistic looking students strutting around.

One thing I did notice was that there seemed to be so many students with septum piercings! I find it strange that different parts of the country have their own mini-trends.

Septum piercing. Image cropped from Google

Another thing I noticed about the day is that - although us artistic types like to think of ourselves as individuals - all the girls seemed to look the same. Everyone seemed to either have 1) ombre hair 2) a military jacket 3) a messy top bun. Some girls even had a combination of all three. This made me wonder, if everyone is dressing the same, how can anyone ever class themselves as unique? The popular trend at the moment is 90s grunge (which I do love). This trend is seen as fairly 'out there' and 'original' - however if we're all dressing the same is this really true? WHO KNOWS... Who cares? Its cool. (But not original.)

New beginnings

I am simply writing this to say I am so annoyed that I haven't been keeping up to date with my blogging but due to A level commitments followed by a summer job I just simply have not had the time! I have thought of so many ideas over the past few months worth sharing although they all seem old now so I'm going to start a clean slate so that I don't post stale/out of date concepts.

Sorry for this lapse in posting but please stay with me as I will get everything up and running again very shortly and hopefully post about something interesting and innovative.

staff party!

Wednesday was the staff party and the dress code was named 'smart/casual' which DOES NOT HELP anybody!! So we were all pondering over what to wear - and by all I mean the girls. In the end I had to make a wise executive decision...

Top and Necklace - Topshop (sale)
Jeans - Zara
Bracelet and Wedges - New look

The wedges you see here I smartly decided to swap for sandals shortly after this photo was taken as they would not have matched the 'casual' side all that well and I thought as though the top dealt with the 'smart' side without much help. In fact... those shoes are still at my mates...

It was a great night btw!!

Topshop skull necklace

I am on this sale hype right now!! I've bought so much stuff this week in the sales and most of it is stuff that I've wanted for ages so I'm well happy with that! One of the things I've bought is this pastel coloured skull necklace from Topshop which I absolutely love and already have loads of outfits planned to wear it with.

woah hi der! (looks weird inside - but so windy k?)

Necklace - Topshop
Blouse - HQ Southend
Jeans - Zara

 crazy neck

Lace socks (over black socks) - New Look

Please ignore the now-manky creepers and focus on the SOCKS MAN. They were only £1 a pair in New Look so I got THREE - purple, mint green and this baby pink colour. WOAH MAN.

In other news...
Remember when I wrote about my crappy pink CD player that started smoking...? Well my Dad threw it out when I wasn't home - along with The Vaccines album that was in it I might add!! (But don't worry, I quickly got that back!) Anyway... this is my replacement...

The funny thing is this beast actually has a good sound!! I fear I may get attatched...

sweaty times!

The sun is finally out which means boobs and bums come out too... not always the best thing for onlookers *cough*. I was one of the idiots who decided to fake tan and ended up with streaky arms and black feet - TANKS MOM.

what i wore today...

Necklace - New Look
Dress - H&M
Belt - New Look
Sandals - New Look

Shirt - H&M
omg my camera is killing me I'm going to have to buy a better one!

Skull studs - ...somewhere down Berwick street

This dress is such a good fit on me and is so cute too! I liked it so much I bought it in mint green n' all. Because they're plain theres room to accessorize and what not so no stress! And of course I don't wear a shirt anymore unless it's got some form of studded collar.

CRAZY CRAZY EASY TIGER.

Primark blazer

what I wore today...

I didn't think much of my outfit today - not my usual creative flair - although I had so many comments about my blazer I thought I should share it with the bloggin' gang...!

Picture of the utmost cringey-ness

Blazer - Primark
White daisy top - River Island
Belt - New Look
Jeans - Zara
Sandals - New Look

Sorry you can't see much of my daisy top - I'm new to all this showing off outfit stuff so was a bit quick to take the picture...

I think this blazer was such a good find considering it's from Primark! I can tell I'll be wearing it a lot in this Summer. Although!! The blue dye rubbed off on my daisy top which I am not happy about because it looks like I have massive sweat patches under my arms now! I love my daisy top n' all - I bought it last Summer and haven't got board of it yet. Hmph, that's Primark for ya... Oh well!

LOVE PEACE AND HAIR GREASE.

big time tidy up

So about a week ago I asked my mum if she would please buy me a CD rack to contain my musical loves and told her that I didn't mind what it looked like or whether it came from the charity shop or not (meaning I didn't care if it was cheap). The other day I came home from sixth form and my mum showed me to my room (odd) on which I was presented with THIS...

This monstrosity of a 70s inspired "vintage" rack from the charity shop now protrudes it self from my room. But the sickening thing is I'm actually starting to warm to it... at least until I get a replacement.
THANKS MOM.

Breaking news...

Today I managed to clear my wardrobe of all my winter things (even though I'll probs have to wack them out again with this rain...) as well as looooadddds of clothes that I don't even wear any more. This is what I collected...

Bulging biceps

Now my clothes have room to breathe and I can make way for loads of new ones yayayaayay! I plan to sort through the whole of my room but, most of the time I cba so... whenevs. This isn't the most exciting post I know but be patient I've got big plans biatch.

LOVELY.

haven't you heard...

...of Jake Bugg?!

I first heard his debut single 'Trouble Town' on XFM a few months ago and immediately fell in love with his voice! He's an 18 year old from Nottingham who sings with a country "twang" as it were who's lyrics are cleverly written - evident in my favourite songs of his, "Lightning Bolt" and "Trouble Town". There was a feature about him in the latest issue of CLASH magazine and I've read about him in other magazines too... although I can't remember what ones those were... not much help there.

You can download his single "Saffron" here for free although after I'd done it it wouldn't let me put it on to iTunes - maybe that's just me?

Let me know if you like his music - or even better if you've heard him live. I can't wait for his album which is due out later this year!

Plus... he's hot.
Nice one.

how to make yourself cool...

...and make all the boys drool. (may be unachievable)

The shirt pictured below I bought from the River Island sale months ago for £10. It was £25 but there is no way I would have paid that for a shirt without arms. I mean WTF BRO?!

I was glad that I found this as before I was planning on buying an old man's shirt from the charity shop and chopping the arms off anyway but every time I went in I could never find a nice checkered one. Problem solved. I haven't worn this shirt since I bought it for the simple reason that I knew I must customise it before I ever wore it... too plain my friend too plain.

I still had some leatherette (fake leather) left over from my AS Textiles project and so used that to cover the collar and front pocket. This was actually surprisingly easy and rather relaxing to do compared to the cropped jumper I did a few weeks ago because I actually measured things this time, who'd a thought?!!

 Awesome angles man

The tchallenge (= challenge) came with piercing the studs through because the leatherette and shirt fabric together was TOUGH SHIT MAN - but I got through it!!

Check out that neck extension

This didn't take me as long either, about two plays of The Vaccines album and a couple of tracks of my playlist. Plus, IT LOOKS SUPA KL... if I do say so myself. Let me know what you think and please try something like this yourself, it makes you feel good inside.

THANKS AND ENGINE TANKS.

Studded Topshop rucksack

With my trusty new rucksack; nothing can go wrong! ERM, NOT. I bought this rucksack on Saturday and every day I've worn it since it's rained and I've got soaked because my umbrella broke. Oh well, I'm sure the weather will get better (ewh why I am saying this?) but I deffo feel 2 KL 4 SKL in my neeeeeww rucksack. I've wanted one since before the start of year 11 however only just decided to buy one for the disgustingly geeky reason that my back hurt. yep. I went strutting around various shops - both men and women departments - as well as charity shops but saw this one and knew it was the ONE FOR ME. Even if I hadn't found a nice one I would have bought a plain one and then studded it up big time biatch. I really like it it's just annoying when I want to get something out as I feel as though I have to unload a suitcase or summin... (wot is lyf?!)

Please don't be alarmed by my TRIPLE DENIM - I know that shit cray!

Here I'm wearing my absolutely beloved vintage Levi jacket (it used to be my muffa's) along with some Zara jeans OBVS.

It cost £35 in Topshop but with my TRUSTY STUDENT DISCOUNT I got it for £31 something pennies.

TERRIFIC.

Jack White - Blunderbuss

BlUnDeRbUsS (enjoy my mad skillage?)

I knew I would want this album as soon as I heard "Love Interruption" on the radio yet I didn't get it straight away cos, well, I'M A DICK. At least, because I waited, I only had to pay £7 for it and I think the start price for it in HMV was £10... not too sure on that one. BUT YEAH. This album is BRILLIANT if you love creepy western gothic rock? Hmmm not quite sure how to really sum this up. The guitar solos are CRAZY - my favourites being in "Freedom at 21," "Weep Themselves To Sleep" and "Take Me With You When You Go".

His lyrics are very intricate and delicately written - again I have no way of explaining this! My favourite set of lyrics are in "Sixteen Saltines" and they go, "She doesn't know but when she's gone I sit and drink her perfume. And I'm sure she's drinking too But why, where what and for who?" MIND BLOWN ON THIS LYRICAL MADNESS.
